The town of Cortona, close to Arezzo and Montepulciano, is based on a hill-top location and surrounded by a fantastic natural panorama. We can define it as an open-air museum: Etruscan traces are all over the town, together with the medieval ones: this blend definitely makes Cortona one of a kind. Town’s origins actually predate recorded history, but we know for sure it has been a focus of commerce, pilgrimage, and war for a long time in central Italy and now we enjoy passed centuries heritage. Around the city many grape varieties are cultivated: the reds are headed by Syrah, which makes up the majority of the region’s plantings, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, Merlot, Pinot Nero and Sangiovese. Whites favor Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling Italico (Welschriesling) and natives Grechetto and Pinot Bianco. First stop will be at Baldetti Winery where quality means: ambition, care, reliability, expertise, coordination, creativity…more and more.. and PASSION: with the magic power to change the strong work of every day in something of charming and exciting, elements to aim at big results. Second stop for lunch will be at Avignonesi winery, a huge and modern producer of all different kinds of wine. Visit the vineyards, the Vinsantaia and Barricaia, and enjoy the wine lover’s lunch with a tasting of 4 top wines. To sum up, we can say that Cortona is a place everybody will be pleased to visit, whether you are a wine lover or interested in local history and culture.
