While most people associate Tuscany only with Chianti and other Sangiovese based red wines, in the last years sparkling wines are spreading. And, according to what experts say, many times the result is something that puts expensive French champagne to shame. The day will start with a visit to Castello del Trebbio (where Pazzi conspiracy against Medici family took place many centuries ago), where they have a significant production of saffron, old varieties of grains and, most important, many different types of wine and an excellent Tuscan “champagne” they are particularly proud of. After that you will have lunch in a private room of the castle, with food accompanied by their famous fruity fresh sparkling wine. A special pairing of sparkling wine and gelato will surprise you at the end of the meal. The second stop will be Castello di Pomino, Frescobaldi family “mountain” estate where it is produced a sparkling wine with a tradition that is almost as old as the family. In fact, we have documents that prove king Henry VIII of England wanted Frescobaldi sparkling wine to be shipped overseas for his family! At Castello di Pomino you will learn the family’s interesting history, visit the winery and, last but not least, taste their great wines.
