This guided cultural experience offers a fascinating journey through stories, curiosities, and anecdotes about the noble Medici dynasty, which, starting in the fifteenth century, left an indelible mark on the Tuscan capital and became one of the most powerful families in Florentine and Italian history. Our tour begins at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the first Medici residence, later purchased and enlarged in 1659 by the Riccardi family. We will then visit the Medici Chapels inside the Basilica of San Lorenzo, where the burial monuments of Giuliano and Lorenzo de’ Medici—masterpieces created by Michelangelo—are located. We will also stroll along Via de’ Medici, where the family established their earliest residence in 1169 and built a celebratory tower in the historic district of San Tommaso. Our half-day experience concludes with a visit to Palazzo Vecchio and its famous Torre di Arnolfo, which contains the small cell known as the Alberghetto, where both Cosimo de’ Medici and Girolamo Savonarola were once imprisoned.
